Help with Fios Actiontech/Velop/Switch

by Moxyman / October 11, 2017 12:27 PM PDT

Hey all. I am hoping somebody can help me, or point me in the right direction as I am a noob when it comes to networking. I’ve been having a lot of problems with my current setup and want to switch to the velop mesh. Only problem is my fios service comes into the house via coax not an Ethernet wire.

Currently the setup is:

ONT > ACTIONTECH > TP-LINK 24 SWITCH > ALL MY OTHER DEVICES (TiVo’s that use cable cards, game system, computer etc).

What I’d like to do is remove the actiontech completely as from what I understand have a bridge and separate networks etc kills speed, and limits the features I want the velop mesh for.

So can I just use the actiontech ECB600 Ethernet to coax adapter, and connect that to the coax coming into my house, then connect that to the velop router via Ethernet?

I’m assuming that puts the velop router in control of everything and I can then connect my tp-link switch to the velop router giving internet back to all my devices after I reboot them all.

If this is correct, do I need to do anything in the actiontech router first? I’m assuming I can just power the swtich and it will get the new info. I also assume if I make the WiFi network the same name in velop as it was when on the actiontech I won’t have to redo setup on all my wireless devices.

Sorry for all the questions. I would appreciate any help or advice you can give me. Just remember I’m a noob so feel free to talk to me like one.

Thanks guys!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
