Help with dvr R40 to expand memory

I have a dvr direct tv. I purchased a 2 terrabyte external memoty. I looked up installation and it advised that all I had to do is hook up the external disk to the eSATA slot, stop the tv, and reboot tv with eSATA external disk.

I have not been able to access the additional memory! Should I connect the external **** to the USB 2? wouldn't that be slower?

Thanks for the help

I had a DirecTV related DVR question that was answered fully in great detail on that site's user forums. Great resource.

I tried to get information (signed up for membership), but could not post on forum-- waited for over 30 minutes, and could not post my information.
