test with cd-rom

In reply to: CD-R

if it can read a cd-rom then the drive is ok. if it only has problems with that particular cd-r, then blame the disc not the drive.

Had similar problem try power feed
by williamjphillips / March 31, 2008 2:21 PM PDT

Use a different power cable feed. It would be best to use a completely different power supply with only the CD-ROM drive plugged in and the green and black wires shorted to turn the power supply on.

I had a very similar problem with a DVD drive working with a DVD ?R but not working with a DVD +R. The problem turned out to be the hard drive. It was causing too much noise on the power feed of the CD-ROM.

Try it and let me know if it works.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
