Help with Drop Down Menu

by feliciadm / March 5, 2007 2:56 AM PST

I am running win xp home. Problem I am encountering is Normally if you click on a folder, it usually opens, (if you right click, the drop down menu pops up and Open is usualy the first option followed by other options) In some instances (and I haven't been able to figure out which ones) when I click a folder that I want to open it sends me to the search option and the search screen pops up. I have to get out of this screen, Right click on the folder I want to open (instead of left clicking on folder) and go to the Open Option of the drop down menu and click it to get the folder to open. When I right click for the drop down menu the order of the options has been modified with Search being the first option instead of Open. Can anyone tell me how to reset this drop down list so that I can have Open be my first option? Please let me know if you need other information.

Go to Start/Run and type in:

regsvr32 /i shell32

Click OK

Note that the spacing is important.

If that doesn't correct the issue which it should use this automated edit:

Search Opens When Double Clicking a Folder or Drive (Line 18 right column).

Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.
