Question

Help With Chrome Sign In on Win10

Apr 1, 2016 8:58AM PDT

Hello Folks,

This is my first post on any of the CNet forums. Here's my BIG problem.

I have Win10 on this laptop only, and I have Win7 on everything else I have. They are both 64 bit. I am able to sign into Chrome on all of my Win7 machines, but I have tried every trick I know, incl. the exact instructions that Google offered. Let me say here the Google CEO should be shot for the ultra crappy support they offer, and for making FREE volunteers to do all of their dirty Cust. Svc. There, it's out of my system.

The way I fixed the problem in Win7 was adding another Chrome user. I signed OUT of Chrome on Win7, then created a 2nd user, using the same email, and it worked. However, the same approach just won't work with Win10. I've tried creating a local Admin account in Win10, and signing in with that, but still no success. I've tried using the 32Bit, and 64Bit Chrome versions. I've posted on Win10 Forum, as well as the Chrome Product forum. Again, those guys are pathetic, I've been better at finding solutions than they have. The guys at Win10 Forum were great at least at offering viable solutions, but they can't figure it out either, and they ARE NOT having issues. BTW, before you ask I just had to buy an entirely new HDD on this laptop, and install Windows all over again, and it STILL doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

Answer
This is unclear.

Please clarify how I can duplicate this on my Windows 10 laptop with the Chrome Browser.

I never found a way to sign in (log in) to Windows 10 with a browser so something is lost in translation here. Give me a step by step to see the issue.

Mr. Proffitt,

Sorry, I DISTINCTLY remember posting a reply to you a couple of hours ago. I'm not trying to sign into Win10. I'm trying to sign into Chrome in the Settings menu, the very 1st line where it prompts you under Sign into Chrome.

Make sense now?

Thanks,
UB58

Ahh, Sign into Chrome.

That's clearer. OK, that works here. I use my gmail name and password and I'm in.

Is there anything odd with this W10 install? Like a 3rd party antivirus, firewall or other?
Is the date and time correct?

Valid questions all, but none apply. Actually, you've alerted me that I need to install my 3rd Party anti-virus because it's usually running. Then again, it IS running on my Win7 and that works fine.

Until this is working you can delay.

W10 has a firewall, and Windows Defender is scoring well now. But I'd like to see how I can duplicate this on my W10 Dell Inspiron. Anything that you think I should try?

Remember I do not use or endorse Microsoft's new email login.

Well, I'm using Admin acct. Are you signing into Chrome? If so, have you tried signing out, and signing back in again?

As I've said earlier. I just wish Google would do their job and help me troubleshoot this in a way that THEY look at what has to be in place in order to be able sign in.

OK. Testing.
Apr 1, 2016 3:49PM PDT

I'm using my name account which is admin capable. I am not using the "administrator" account.

I clicked on the hamburger menu and I see the Sign in. Click the Sign in to Chrome and put in my gmail email address (without the @gmail.com) and then Next and then the password and now I see the Advanced Sync Settings. OK that and I'm now signed in.

This is a very bog standard Windows 10 setup. But as it's my guinea pig machine it uses Windows Defender and is very clean.

Interesting. So, is that Admin account the Stnd Admin acct? I tried using just the 1st half of my acct name as you did, but still had no success. I even made sure that my Admin acct was signed into it's Microsoft acct (which IS the gmail acct.), but I still can't get in.

So, are you seeing this as a Windows, or Chrome issue, or one contingent on the other?

It's an user account that is admin capable.
Apr 1, 2016 6:47PM PDT

Remember that due to many reasons we always create our own account plus backup admin capable accounts. The reason is carved in history. In case you never heard of it, google this.

CORRUPT PROFILE WINDOWS.

So if you are using your lone administrator account you are doing a high wire act without a net.

So I never use the built in "administrator" user account but my account which is in administrator group or privilege. Sorry but some folk want me to write it one way or another so I'm going to not be too exact here. But share how it's working fine for me.

If there's something I can test, please do so by Saturday as I have a test to do on the W10 guinea pig on Sunday.

I'm finally understanding the difference between those 2 accounts, I'm just fuzzy on how to create them. Sounds dumb, but seems like every time I think I've done it, all I've done is just created ANOTHER built-in account. I did just try and open my Calc app (which I'm unable to on the Built-in account) and it DID open.

I'll respond again tomorrow. Gotta get to bed right now.
