Help with canon camcorder please

Nov 18, 2006 2:51AM PST

I have a canon mvx250i camcorder which is having problems with its zoom. Sometimes it gets stuck on the closest zoom setting. I will try and zoom out using the zoom out switch on the camera and it will zoom out very very slowly - but as soon as I let go of the zoom out switch it will automatically zoom back in again to the closest zoom (on its own). I have noticed this tends to happen after I recharge the battery (I don't know whether this is coincidence or not). After a couple days it usually reverts back to normal functioning and the zoom works fine. However this time it won't go back to normal. Would appreciate any help.

Here's a suggestion of the problem....

It sounds like its the toggle being misaligned with its correct position. I dont have any suggestions of how to fix it but this is my thought so maybe you could experiment with a little theory in mind... If you know this isnt the case, then just post and tell me plus give me a little more details of how it functions when this occurs. Good luck!!

I don't think the toggle is misaligned.

Thanks for the reply whizkid54. I don't think the toggle is misaligned. I've tried experimenting a bit with that. I'm not sure what other details I can give you about how it functions when this occurs. Basically it can still record and do everything it can when it functions normally - but the only problem is that it is zooomed in all the way - and I have no control over it. (Like I mentioned in the last post - I can get it to zoom out - much slower than is normal - but then as soon as I let go of the zoom toggle it zooms itself back in again). Its all very strange...

Unfortunately I live in Panama at the moment so I cant get it to a Canon office, and I really don't think there is anywhere I can take it here to get fixed.
