Help with buying a new Canon?

I have been looking into upgrading from my canon point and shoot. I have been trying to figure out what I actually need. I'm not a professional ..just enjoying taking pictures of my kids.

I have been looking into the following canon rebels : Xs, Xsi, T1i, T2i

Does anyone have an suggestions. Would the Xs or Xsi be fine or would I need to spend a little more and get the T1 or T2.. just need some advice.

The XS and XSi are fine; certainly a huge step up in image quality from point and shoot cameras. But neither offer video capture, HD or otherwise.

This will depend on your budget. If you can afford more, then get the T2i. The DSLR HD movie practically does not autofocus during video, need to manual focus, so won't be good for sports or actions that move towards your camera. But I do use the HD movie function quite a bit for casual family clips, the image quality is great and is superior to camcorder in low light when used with my fast lenses. The only time I pull out my HD camcorder is when I video my kid's sports.
If your budget is tight, then get the XS, its photo quality is still great.
