the best procedure will be following of these steps to completely reinstall AVG 2011 on your computer (make sure all AVG folders are removed).
Then check the situation again. What is the current situation?
Note: as you are using Asus notebook, have you installed ASUS Data Security Management application? According to some reports, this application can cause freeze of AVG installation (not induced in our environment).

So after dealing with the "unpleasant" result of the AVG restart, I only got it to work by renaming some AVG files as .bak. However, now that it is booting again, I keep getting the "AVG needs a restart" window, even after I do it, it comes up right after - repeatedly. I am not able to uninstall AVG, but it will not correct itself - I can only assume that renaming files has messed it up. Any solutions? Windows 7, Asus U43J, 64bit.
