Question

Help with AirPort Express network

Aug 12, 2012 4:14AM PDT

I purchased an AirPort Express approximately a month ago (the newest 2012 version). I am a college student attempting to use this in my dorm room. I registered the AirPort Express's ethernet mac address with my school's network and connected an ethernet cord from the AirPort Express to the ethernet wall port provided in my dorm room. Everything worked perfectly.

Now a few days ago I moved into a new dorm room. I plugged in to the ethernet wall port here and I am getting an error message that it cannot get an ip address. (I tested the ethernet port by plugging it into my computer and it worked fine).

I have tried reseting the AirPort Express (soft, hard, and factory resets). What am I doing wrong? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you!

Answer
It's possible your MAC Address was registered wrong.

Have the college IT staff read it back for you and check it again.

It's correct

Thanks for the reply. The mac address had to have been registered correctly when it was working in my initial dorm. When transferring to my new dorm I left it registered since both dorms are on the same network.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Have them READ IT BACK TO YOU. Sorry but that has paid off too many times.
