HELP with a Clamshell Imac

i ibook has OSX and i belive it has crashed it will not go past the whites screen with the gray apple how do i fix this i have no OS disc and was wondering what is was missing so i what to access the mac equal of Bios PLEASE HELP ME

You need OS X Installation disks

to see if the problem is with the Hard drive or somewhere else.

You need to be able to boot the machine from a CD.

There is no Mac equivalent of BIOS and even if there was, there would be nothing that you could do at this stage.
If the gray Apple has a Cartwheel revolving at the bottom of the screen, the machine is looking for a bootable disk.

what about linux or is there a downloadale boot disk download or would an loder os work????
