Help. Windows installer error

Nov 1, 2007 2:05AM PDT

So, here is my trouble. I recently purchased Office 2007 and want to install it on my computer. Unfortunately for me I can't uninstall 2003. Why? I cant answer that but here is what I have done. Originally I tried to delete it using Add/remove programs... got and error say "Unexpected Termination" Windows Installer... Well click cancel or ok don't remember the button that error box keeps popping up and will never go away until i ctrl alt delete and end to process... So from there I try just removing the last update.. same problem... fine.. Tried reloading the newest update.. failed because windows installer is in use.. I then figured I can get rid of windows installer so I uninstalled it and that worked. reinstalled it and updated it then tried everything over.. same thing... so I have done everything I can think of.. I can't find my Windows Office 2003 CD to try and reinstall it then get rid of it so thats out.. short of reformatting any suggestions?. Can I just install Office 2007 over 2003? Someone please help me thanks

I'd move forward.

Office 2007 should upgrade fine but there are those that wanted to retain parts of Office 2003 and this is where some run into trouble. But that's not your goal.

I'd try it and see what happens.

In closing, Microsoft does offer replacement media for cheap to registered owners of Office 2003. Last time it was 35 bucks.

Try the Windows Installer cleanup utility.
