HELP! What laptop best fits my needs?

by Visceria / March 13, 2007 1:31 PM PDT

Hi there!

I really, really want to buy a laptop (never had one before), but I don't know which to get. Price is basically no issue here, so I thought I'd make a list of things I plan on using the laptop for, and maybe someone could point me in a general direction? It would be very appreciated! =)

THINGS I WANT TO DO W/ LAPTOP:
- play games (specifically WoW, and online RPG)
- use the internet
- play movies and music
- download things via BitTorrent
- create movies/short films
- chatting with instant messangers, etc.

Thanks, and I hope someone can help me! There are so many options (Dell, Sony, Toshiba, Gateway, HP, etc.), it makes my head spin! lol!

Oh, and I forgot to add that I would like some brand known to last long, with a good screen without glare, etc.

Are you sure on the budget?

If so, go check out VoodooPC's laptops for one idea. A Dell XPS M2010 would also be a good idea since you don't mention weight, size or battery life being factors either.

Remember that if you want to play games that you may want to wait till there are laptops with a Direct X10 video card in them, e.g. the nVidia 8800 series cards support Direct X10 but aren't likely good for laptops since they would likely require a lot of power and generate quite a bit of heat.

JB

Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely check out both laptops you recommended . . . I might go with the Dell anyway, though, since my friend (who uses her laptop for basically the same things that I want to do with mine) has a Dell, too.

Anyway, thanks a bunch! Wink

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
