HELP! Web Host is jacking up my rate.

May 19, 2008 4:11AM PDT

I am currently with Surpass Hosting, and have been since 2004. I thought I was grandfathered in with their old plans (very limited, but very cheap). Now, they're jacking up my rate, but not increasing benefits (increased to $5/mo, with 2GB storage... yes, that's right)

I have no e-commerce needs. I don't need any beginner web template stuff, but reasonable content manager interface (Surpass had CPanel). I like using my own FTP program, but am not an expert web developer. I don't need HUGE storage (20-50 GB - though it seems like a lot of them offer hundreds of GB in their basic packages which stuns me since I've been stuck at 2GB for years). ASP hosting is a plus, since that's what I'm learning, but I don't see many of those out there.

Just a good, reliable site with GOOD CUSTOMER service that I can call on the phone instead of playing e-mail tag. Also, I want to keep it under $5 per month ($4 would be nice).

That's a lot of stuff, and thanks for your patience, but I really need help. I'm having trouble figuring out which of these web hosting "review" sites are real or bogus and just ads in disguise.

You may wish to take a wonder over too www.hosthideout.com, some really wonderful web hosting companies "hideout" over there.

I'd rather not point a finger in which direction you should go, as there are many more downs than up with web-hosts that offer such large services for so little.

It looks like your current host has packages starting around $6 for over 200GB in space and 2000GB in traffic, maybe have a talk with the sales/billing department over there.

I am shocked they would raise your rates while almost all computer related services have been decreasing in total cost.

Prices should be going down for you.

These people have actually dropped their rate. They have decided that quantity really does add up.

Choosing A Good Webhost
Jun 8, 2008 11:51AM PDT

When choosing a good host, please consider the amount of space, the number of domains and the number of SQL that can be added. A good hosting company should provide for these including free essential scripts like blog installation and many others. In addition, it should have unparallel support. Hence, think if the host provide these before consider taking it up the offer. For me, i choose hostgator
