Between those two cameras, I suggest the Nikon.
The Sony uses a budget wide angle lens that is soft at the right/left sides of the photos.
Soft means not-sharp.
It also has 16 megapixel which is too many pixels on such a small sensor assembly.
That results in a loss of detail.

Regarding GPS.
It has some advantages, you could locate where the photos were taken.
But that may not be a good thing for someone in the military.
If any of those photos were posted on the internet, the enemy could locate his EXACT position.

Hi everyone, first posting here. I would appreciate any help if possible.
My son is going into the Military and I want to get him set up with a camera that is small and not bulky, but has both decent still pictures and videos.
We started out looking at the Olympus TG-810 because of it's ruggedness and GPS, but then shyed away from it because of zoom and quality reviews we saw and heard of.
Now we have it down to two different cameras. The Sony Cyber Shot DSC-WX10, and the Nikon Coolpix S9100.
We liked the zoom on the nikon, but the wide angle and panaramic capability of the Sony.
Which of these two would you reccomend, or which camera besides these two would you reccomend us to look at.
