help w/ iMail

Dec 1, 2010 11:10PM PST

I need help w/ iMail as I have been having issues w/ password prompts. I had found it works better w/ Chrome than Firefox, but am not using either currently due to other issues. I am using Safari. I get the password prompt when trying to send out an email. My Mac is a Macbook Pro mid-2009 model. Can anyone help? My primary mail is Google.

mail problems

"iMail", is that a typo or a mail program called that?

the only thing I found called iMail, for a Mac, was a widget that tells you how many unread emails you have in Apple Mail.

if you are using Apple Mail, I don't see the connection with Safari, Chrome or Firefox. Neither of those applications are required for Apple Mail to work.

What application is asking for a password and what happens when you give it?

I meant Apple mail

Sorry for being so unclear.

Maybe there is no connection w/ the browser. I don't know. That's why I ask. Anyway, I get a password prompt when I attempt to send a new email. It does not seem to recognize my password which is sync'd w/ Google account. I can't send out email. The program has worked before, but I can't recall what I did differently.

According to the directions for set up, my account is set up correctly.

Check that your Google account password

works by logging into your Google account using Safari, the web browser.

If if does, go back to Mail, remove whatever is in the password field and put the correct one in there.

Now try to send email

Apple Mail now appears to work

Thanks. I went to Google, signed in, then went to Apple Mail preferences and erased what was there and added Google password. Opened Apple Mail, wrote a test email and got the password prompt. Entered Google password and checked enter password into chain. Then sent the mail. It now works O.K.
