I looked at the 32lh40 and don't find any requirement to send the TV sound via optical.
Since I'm missing the BLU RAY make and mode, I can't see what's up.

So I can't begin to use my new Samsung Blu-Ray player because the start up screen only flashes for a second (if I'm lucky) and then goes black.
Here's my setup:
I have a 2009 LG TV - 32LH40. It does have HDMI but also requires the optical digital audio cable for sound. These cords are running to my new receiver:
The receiver is a Yamaha AXV377. Lots of HDMI, etc.
The receiver and the TV connect just fine. I've got TV working, radio, etc. all going through home theater speaker system.
The Blu-Ray however does not connect directly to the TV nor to the receiver using the HDMI. I know the inputs are set up correctly. I've changed the order I turn the devices on. I've unplugged, replugged, checked connections.
I can't change settings on the Blu-Ray to change the screen configuration as I've read would work - or do anything else - as I can't see the screen in the first place! (And I don't have the coaxial digital audio out cable that's an option for a second alternate connection.
So, any ideas?, help! I'd be so very grateful [banging head against blank TV screen, screaming kids want to watch DVD...]
