Help! USB PS2 optical mouse keep light on after PC shutdown

Apr 24, 2006 10:27AM PDT

I just bought a new PS2 optical mouse.
The mouse is functioning properly except that the red light under the mouse does not turn off after I power down the PC (Windows ME).
Can anyone help? OR what additional information should I provide to help solving the problem?
Thanks in advance.

What system?

I agree with Robert on this and link provided. However, you must have a desktop system in order to accept this condition. If you have a "laptop" system then your maker should have a fix for this by now. It need not be a mouse, it can be any USB device that has some LED or illumination as such for gitz effect which in the long run drains power and not good for laptops.

It is an old DIY desktop P3 PC with Intel 810 chipset

Thanks.
The BIOS is "AMIBIOS".
Moreover the NumLock light of the PS2 keyboard also does not turn off after PC power down.
Is there any chance of turning off the red light of the mouse? It is quite scaring to have such red light in the midnight Happy

That's not a bug either.

Some machines have the capability to wake up on pressing the return key or spacebar. To accomplish this, the power is maintained to the keyboard too.

Not a bug. By design.

The machine's maker should be contacted if the manual doesn't give a way to turn it off HOWEVER there may be no way to turn either one off except to install one more off switch. Hint? a powerbar.

ATX make-up
Apr 25, 2006 1:16PM PDT

Under the ATX design and similar psu's, they provide a low-level system wake-up. In other words, its always warm and able to quickly power-up from kybd.(some key), remote activation(modem) or network setup. In some kybds. if no "power LED" then you have a leaky ckt. that activates(led) showing some power present, though weak. Better kybds. with no power LED, usually are unlit. Alot depends on your system make-up, etc., you can check the bios setup and see under pheriphals or similar what if any "wake-up" setting is set for. If you open your system case, you may find a small LED always lit, a visible reminder not to pull cables, etc. unless power is OFF, plus it usually is showing power is good(open to debate) but some mtrbd. makers call it that. Anyways, you can always pull the AC plug to truly shutdown system after proper shutdown.

That's no glitch! It's normal for all ps2 optical mouse

The red light will not turn off even if you shutdown your system. That's actually normal, optical mouse tends to hybernate to conserve power even if the system is of, remember that it is still connected to a power source, try turning off the AVR and disconnect it from any power source and you wont see the red light ON anymore.

That's nothing. . .

In my office, between my three home builts, two LCD displays, cable modem, router, laptop with a lighted USB extender cord, HD TV, DVD/VCR, speakers, cordless phone, and power strips/UPSs, I have more than thirty LEDs alight. You can read a book in here with everything turned off.
