help! usb probs--loading probs--possible virus

Nov 3, 2006 11:54PM PST

My new macbook pro got really messed up somehow. My usb ports don't work, and when i turn the computer on only the top menu bar shows up. I phoned apple, and they thought that it could be a font problem, but deleted my fonts didn't help, and that wouldn't help the usb thing either. I can't think or anything i would have done that would have done this. I did talk to someone on another chat forum--they thought that it might be that new mac virus that seems to be going around. Could I have gotton it from downloarding a song off limewire or something? Do you know anything about the virus and what can i do about it?

"On May 12, 2006, the BBC reported that "Limewire" and "Lime wire" were among search terms likely to return links to malware from an Internet search engine.[6]"

Take it to the service desk and ask them to fix it up.

Not a virus, but

it is definitely an error that can be directly attributed to pirating music and software from Limewire.

The error has an Identification number of 10 with Tango being the extender.

Possibly you best bet at this stage is to reinstall the OS using the Archive and Install option. Once the the install is complete and you have fully updated the OS, using Software Update, you should uninstall Limewire and never go back to it.

limewire, downloading and viruses

Listen, everyone downloads music nowadays, and limewire is legal if you share music that has been bought.

I also wouldn't be surprised if it was one of you anti-limewire people that started the limewire virus, just to sabotage and pay us back.

Our secret is out.
I dispute your statement that ''everyone downloads music nowadays'' I don't and I know many people who do not download music.
I also dispute your statement that ''limewire is legal if you share music that has been bought''
When you purchase music, on a CD for instance, you do not purchase the copyright to that music. If you live in the US, you have the right to make a copy of that CD for personal use.
You do NOT have the right to share that music with anyone else unless you give them the original CD.

What Limewire virus would that be? I don't recall saying that you had a virus. That was something that you came up with.
it is definitely an error that can be directly attributed to pirating music and software from Limewire. I do recall saying that you had an error directly attributable to the use of Limewire. I said that the error had an Identification number of 10 with Tango being the extender. I believe you still have that problem.

I take it that you did not follow the advice that you asked for.
