Hope one of them cures yours.
My computer has fritzed and I really don?t know where to start. Its got an Intel Celeron 2.6 GHz, 265MB Ram, Windows XP Home Edition, USB 2.0 ports. I'm using 30GB out of the 80GB hardrive, 20 of which is music and 10 of which is actually important to me.
I left my computer on one evening and the following evening I went to wake it up from ''sleep'' mode. It didn't respond after some time. I turned it off, turned it back on and when it started up I got an error balloon, ''Power Surge On Hub Port. The USB device has exceeded the power limits....'' My mouse that was plugged into the USB port, stopped working. I tried manning through menus with the keyboard only (tough task!) before it just started beebing like crazy. I restarted it a couple more times in hopes that my mouse would start working again, but it didn't. Instead I got the blue screen and ''Hardware malfunction, contact vendor, the system has halted.'' I?ve read about issues with Windows SP2 with USB ports & blue screens, but can?t remember if it was automatically installed or not.
I did notice the fan sort of smelled like it possibly burnt up, but nothing looked burnt inside the box. Yesterday, I got a PS/2 connection for my mouse and tried to start up in safe mode. Except it didn't work. I don't think my keyboard is working now since F8 got me nowhere and the PS/2 connection didn?t help with the mouse. Heck, its not even booting up past a black screen and when I do turn it off, it just continually runs and never really shuts down completely. I have to pull the power cord.
Any direction as to where to start or even what could have possibly happened would be greatly appreciated. I?d really like to at least get my 10GB of data/pictures that I hadn?t backed up in a while!
Thanks in advance!!
