Help to resolve problem: Message, "Found New Hardware - Wi

Apr 10, 2015 12:37PM PDT

I've spent many hours trying to resolve a problem with a
pop-up message that will NOT go away: "Found New
Hardware - Windows needs to install driver software for
your Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller." I've spent
time in the Device Manager folder, even checking under
"hidden devices" and find everything is "working properly". I don't understand why listed under "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controllers" are seven (7) listings of "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, and seven(7) listings of "Unknown device". Clicking on the properties tab of each of these shows them each to be "working properly". My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista OS. I'm desparate for help to get rid of this extremely annoying message that won't budge! Sincere thanks for any help out there. Larry

What happens if you disable those devices?

Help to resolve problem: Message, "Found New Hardware - Wi

Thanks, Kees, for taking time and offering your thoughts. I disabled all the items listed under Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller in the Device Manager. My printer then would not work. I then un-installed everything associated with the printer and inserted the original printer disc. Still, the printer would not work. It was only after I re-enabled all the items listed under Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller in the Device Manager that the printer would again work. Blows my "novice" mind! As I mentioned the window message that will not go away states, " Windows needs to install the driver software for my Universal Serial Bus (BUS) Controller". I don't understand just what the USB Controller is and how I can locate them. I'd be grateful, Kees, if you could help, further. Thanks! Larry

Is this an "all in one" printer?

If so, did you load the scanner drivers too?
