Help to make plan

Dec 15, 2012 9:07AM PST

Hello to all, I have recently got a BSc in computer science and I want to choose a path to follow. I am between the sysadmin and database admin path. I would like your opinion on this and what do you believe are the must have skills in each case. I want to make a plan of what I should start learning first. I can't afford getting a certification like MCIT or Oracle database administrator so I want to start learning IT books by myself. Also I'm completely stranger to linux. Should I get first a strong knowledge in windows (xp,7,Cool and then move to linux? Apart from python, can you suggest any other usefull programming or scripting language for a sysadmin or dbadmin? Do you find powershell usefull?
