Help Stopped Media Player

Aug 18, 2007 3:29AM PDT

Good Afternoon!

My wife, visiting her father, is reloading Windows. She said that when she downloaded IE7 the Media Player no longer plays Music CD's.

Any help, at all, wood be appreciated

David

Get Winamp

Forget about Windows Media Player. It's big, it's slow, it's cumbersome... Try a different program for playing CDs or media files in general.

I like WinAmp for audio. Specifically the older, but very fast and light, WinAmp 2.95. Takes a bit of searching to find, but it's worth it IMO. For video, it's a tossup between MediaPlayer Classic and VLC Player.

There are of course others to choose from, some free, some not, but there's little point trying to fix Windows Media Player when there are better alternatives out there.

What actually happens?
Aug 18, 2007 6:38AM PDT

I note your wife is re-loading Windows.

What happens when she tries to use WMP, (Windows Media Player)? You say it no longer plays music CD's but does that mean there is no sound, or WMP will not recognize or find the CD, or some WMP does not open when the CD is inserted?

I ask because if it is a no sound problem, she may need to be sure she has installed the sound card drivers. Not knowing her father's system, whether it is retail with XP already installed or some other system, the drivers may be on a different CD.

It may be that another player would work, because some versions of WMP have problems. But we cannot be sure until we know the actual problems.
