help selecting a laptop (toshiba v. gateway)

I am a graduate student who needs a thin & light notebook on a grad student's budget. I have a desktop so this would not be a replacement. Mostly I would be using it for working on schoolwork, research, and powerpoint presentations. I would also like to be able to play a DVD on airplane rides. I need a long-lasting battery and would like this laptop to have a pretty long life. I'm looking more "middle of the road." I've looked at several brands & models and am thinking about getting a Toshiba M35x-349, a Gateway 4530GZ, or a Gateway 7320GZ. Any opinions on these? What would you recommend? Do you have any other recommendations based on my criteria? THANKS!

Gateway All The WAY

I thought I would add my 2 cents worth, and maybe it will help in your selection. I just purchased this Gateway 7320 GZ and I am here to tell you its the best laptop I have ever owned. Its very fast with the Intel Pent 4 with HT tech. I can burn a dvd and surf the web at the same time as well as listen to some tunes at the same time. I have had as many as 7 apps going with power to spare.

I too looked at some Toshiba models and The main reason I chose this Gateway was because I got the most bang for my buck.

You cant go wrong with this machine. Give it a try you wont be sorry.

God Bless

They need to get their act together on a design gaffe as well as finish their new (US) service system.
