help----saving files turn into temp files????

Sep 16, 2005 12:54AM PDT

I?ve noticed a very strange thing happens when I?m working in Word 2003. I open a document and type for a while, then hit save. The name of the document changes to something like ?~wrl3980.tmp? and if I close my document then I lose all my recent work. To get around this I have to copy each document before I close it and replace the contents of the file by pasting.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling Office and ran all updates.

Fix to Word 2003 ~wrl3980.tmp Problem
Sep 29, 2005 9:37PM PDT

Hi,

We had the same issue as you. After trying to isolate so many things we put a call into Microsoft Support.

Basically there is a setting under Word that you need to untick.

Within Word go to Tools, Options, Save and then UNTICK "Make local copy of file stored on network or removable drive".

Our 100+ users that were experiencing the ~wrl3980.tmp file problem have not reported one instance now of this happening again.
