Resolved Question

Help restricting access to some apps based on time and day

Jan 2, 2013 12:05PM PST

I am setting up a tablet for my son to use in school. He has difficulties and the school will allow him to use a tablet for note taking and recording assignments. I want to have both productivity / learning apps and fun apps on the tablet. I am looking for a way (app) that I can allow access to some apps while restricting access to others (games, etc.) during hours my son is in school (time/calendar based access, not password). The tablet runs 4.0.4 (no upgrade to 4.1 or 4.2 yet) and I do not want to root the tablet. Can anyone advise? Thanks so much!

Not a native feature.

On the Kindle Fire you see Amazon setup parental controls with such features. I see you asked for an app but I didn't search for you. In the App store, look for PARENTAL CONTROLS.

I'm unsure why you would need to root the device. You may have to change that setting about installing 3rd party apps and I'm encountering folk that call that rooting (it's not.)

Thank you, found an app

Bob,

Thank you for your response. I've been searching app stores for months with no luck until just this morning. Every parental control app I found did not operate according to time and day, but only by password. I'd been told I might need to root my device as I might be able to do this via ICS 4.1 or Jelly Bean, which aren't yet available for it.

However, this AM I found that MMGuardian just released a tablet security app like their relatively new phone app. It seems simple and straightforward. You can specify some apps that are only available with a password, and other apps that are only available between hours of you choice, on days of your choice. I am going to evaluate it over the next week. Looks exactly like what I was looking for.

Thank you again!
