Question

Help required, port/network sabotage suspected...

Sep 4, 2016 3:10PM PDT

So here's the deal, I live in a shared house with shared access to the router.

Since moving in I've had trouble with various things like access control and firewall settings being applied to my Xbox one and messed around with on the router management console. It's a BT home hub 5. I've had to reset the password many times to then remove restrictions, plus reset to factory settings multiple times. Whoever is doing it, is putting their device on the DMZ option within the router. Perhaps hosting a server. My knowledge of what is happening is growing as the attacks and restrictions evolve. Most recently being the blocking of the Xbox ones ports, and now, today my multiplayer connection speed is down to 4 Mbps, usually 30ish, I just know that someone has restricted it and I have no idea how. Here's a link for screenshots of event log, any educated 'light shedding' would be greatly appreciated. http://imgur.com/a/QokIS

Re: Since I don't own your router

I know it needs to be secured, I'm hoping with a valid argument the landlord will allow me to take the router into my flat; and from there, control over the router. His device is the 'DXB', and with the factory resets the IP addresses are re allocated and often change, so it may change through the pics. Someone in the house is doing this, they have been restricting me since a couple of days after i moved in. I live in the UK. I just want to know what exactly is happening, he is blocking ports specific to the Xbox one, google - Xbox one ports, im curious if what I have in screenshots is proof of that.. In one screen shot it's says connection closed for port 3074, and another shot it says connection closed on port 53, ports from what I've read on the internet; are specific to Xbox. Both 'commands'(event log entries) come from the DXB's IP address at the time, I don't quite understand what it means and would like clarity on what the event log is indicating, whether the Xbox ones ports are being intentionally disrupted, and if I have proof of that.

My understanding is that he is hosting a server of some kind and has some software and or devices designed for networking. And he does not like my Xbox ones requirement of bandwidth. I am at his mercy, thank you for your time, I hope you are able to help me further.

Wait? It's not your router or service?

Yikes. I think you have to pay for your own system and own it.

The logs do nothing for me if you don't own and lock down the router. If you give up physical access you broke a major rule about security. You may get upset but this is a rule that can not be broken.

Blocked Ports

Sounds like someone else might be using the same ports, I would just
run my own router.
