HELP! Problem with AudioPhase KZ111/KZ112 MP3 Player

May 23, 2007 12:12PM PDT

Alright, now the problem with this MP3 player is that, when I plug it into the system, via USB port, the 'Found New Hardware' window comes up, after closing it, I look in My Computer, only to find that it is not listed as one of the drives, infact, it's not listed at all, period. I've googled this, I've checked previous threads, and I cannot seem to find the answer. Any suggestions ?

Hmm

Well I don't think there is a link to the manual, that I know of. Then again, I'm still not sure what you mean, I read those two links, and they didn't really help me too well. I think it's the computer with the problem, because I tried using my friend's MP3 player on this,( Same kind, brand, etc. ) And got the same result. I've also had this problem before, with an old webcam of mine, which worked for awhile, then after about 2 months of no use, it started doing the same as the MP3 player.

Oh yeah.

Looks grim.

Many MP3 players have a choice of modes. Since there is no manual I can check your unit's features I can't help you further. Sorry that MSC or MTP modes seem hard to grasp.

Why not return it as defective?

:(

Because my sister's does the same, I mean like, I don't have a problem with transfering music to it, it's that when I plug it in, it doesn't appear in My Computer like it should, instead it only shows the 'Found New Hardware' bubble. This is why I think it's a computer problem.

- Collapse -
Or that's proper.
May 24, 2007 9:13PM PDT

That feature depends on it being the MSC type device. Since you can transfer music, then it's likely to be the MTP device.

-> In my view it's not broken.

Erm
May 24, 2007 9:25PM PDT

I never said it was broken, I said I have a problem that I don't know how to deal with. When the found new hardware bubble comes up, it shows it as a MTP Device. But when I go to My Computer to drag and drop the items, it's not there.

MTP devices don't show as a drive letter.
May 24, 2007 10:25PM PDT

The links I supplied did answer how to transfer music to such.

You use either supplied software or in some cases Windows Media Player.

Nothing broken here and it's working as it should.

You're confused, when I plug in the MP3, it shows the found new hardware bubble as a MTP device, and when I go to My Computer to drag and drop my music onto it, it's not showed as a drive or anything. When I do it with Windows Media Player, it shows there's no device plugged in. Here, Screenshots:

WMP only works with "SOME" devices.

Not all. This area annoys many. In MSC mode it's a non-issue.

Microsoft created this mess so don't feel bad. Also if you feel it should work please complain to it's maker. As it stands you didn't supply me a link to the manual so I can check out options.

I am not confused. I've dealt with some hundred models so I stick with MSC units or iPods.

Eh
May 24, 2007 11:03PM PDT

I didn't mean I can transfer music to it, like that I've done it before, it's just that I don't think it's the MP3 player that's messing up. I've never put music on this thing, that's why I'm here. It's the fact that I can't, the instruction manual says to Sync it from Windows Media Player or drag and drop it from the drive in My Computer, yet it doesn't appear plugged in on either of these.

Charging???
Jun 5, 2007 10:38AM PDT

How do you charge the KZ111 because I have no idea how to do it? Does it chagrge when you hook it to the computer? Or is that just so you can sync the songs to it?

This discussion is not about charging.

But is the documentation that bad?

"Device not recognized after installing Windows Media Player 11
Some devices that support the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) might not be recognized in Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP.

If you encounter this issue, perform the following procedure.

1. Uninstall the device in Device Manager by performing the steps in Issues with devices after removing Windows Media Player.
2. Disconnect the portable device from your computer.
3. Reconnect the device to your computer.
4. Start Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP and verify that your device is recognized and displays in the Player."

If that doesn't fix it contact the device's maker for support.

The MTP player/device doesn't show up in device manager. All I see in the USB ports section is USB composite device ( My mic ) and 4 USB Root Hubs

Looks like we hit the end of that article. If it's dead, non-functional and no support found pack it up and ask for your money back.

May 28, 2007 12:40PM PDT

Well, I went to the library yesterday and used one of their computers, hooked up the MP3 player and got atleast 5 test songs on it from the internet. It did just as I said, it appeared in my computer, and I could drag n' drop it. My sister's MP3 player does the same.

- Collapse -
Then you need to fix your OS.
May 28, 2007 10:58PM PDT

The methods can be extreme such as reloading the OS. The clues given so far don't point to any other quick fix.

May 29, 2007 2:10AM PDT

Soo, the only thing left to do is call the manufacturer, like you said earlier ? Even though it's not a defective ?

- Collapse -
I wouldn't call the MP3 maker.

You proved it's a problem with your machine. Now it's between you and your machine's support.

I have no problem with the player under Win ME. If you're using Win XP i've had a similar problem with USB flash drives, it recognizes the drive but does not appear in MyComputer. you can try right-click mycomputer, manage, disk management - in the window with Disk0, Disk1 right-click the mp3/flash drive (either 1 or 2 GB) and choose Change Drive Letter and set a letter for the player.

you might also try using Windows Media player 10 or 11 - think the instructions say to use that for XP.

Windows XP Home Edition SP2

Note: I don't know if this helps or anything, but the MP3/MTP player isn't the first problem I've had like this.
An old webcam I had, did the same thing, after I didn't use it for around a month.

Other suggestions, go in the control panel and turn off the windows firewall. see if that makes any difference [remember to turn it back on].

Also, right-click mycomputer, hardware, device manager and see if theres any red/yellow flags next to hardware when the mp3 is connected. (i use win xp pro, the home edition may have hardware manager in a different location].
