Tricky question. Here's why.

Divx and other compression has some dozen settings so change one and the answer changes. No one can give you an authoritative answer here.

DVD-writing...

In reply to: Help Plzs.....

Making DVD-movies requires a PC w/a Pentium 4 or higher CPU..
512MB's of RAM..a 7200RPM[NTFS]HDD..a IEEE 1394 Firewire..a Digital Sound Card[PCI-expansion card]..
Video Authoring and Editing Software..w/a DVD-decoder..
..
DVD-blanks come in two sizes/4.7-GB's and 8.5-GB's..
Both make great DVD-movies..Both need Home DVD-Players that are compatible..
..
I will usually keep my DV-tape Files at 50-minute levels..I most times edit out some couple of minutes..
The 4.7 DVD-blank will accept 50-minutes w/ease..you basically want to have a 3.9-GB mpeg-2 FILE on the Blank DVD..that's about 9-GB's of DV-video File(Large File)..
I maintain the DVavi File for editing/useing the Video Authoring and Editing software to compress to MPEG-2..
..
the 8.5 Dual Layer requires more..and will hold a 2-hour Movie..
..
A 4.7 GB disk=50minutes of movie time in MPEG-2..you could possibly push that to 1-hour 10-minutes../but that extra Editing Time is not really worth the trouble..I keep inside the 50-minute time frame.
