Imagine if I was a poor student and this happened. I would be devastated. My laptop was having issues about a day out of the box yet I wasn't sure if it was me, a driver, BIOS or something else.

Turns out it was HP all the way and they took 6 months to tell me there was nothing they could do?

Really? HP lost me forever over this. I can't advise anyone go near that product unless it's some cheap refurb.

I am looking for something 350 and below - it doesnt have to be flashy just run well for the work i need to do. What do you recommend?
