HELP please- Netsh Winsock Reset

Dec 14, 2009 4:11AM PST

Hi guys,

I have a problem for some time now with Norton and internet connection. My friend removed an older version of Norton in order to install a new one and from that moment we don't have internet connection to the desktop PC. The wireless connection of the laptop is just fine but the desktop PC is not working. It says that it is connected but in the same time Unidentified Connection. We tried couple of things but nothing is working.
WE assume that the Norton was not properly removed.Wanted to use the Norton removal tool but we don't have anymore the specificationsSad

Any idea how can we fix that?

May be handy to mention that I have Vista.

I cam across something about Netsh Winsock Reset. I wanted to try it but I am afraid that then I won't have internet even on my laptop. Can anyone please tell me if I type this command on the Desktop PC, will it affect in any way the wireless connection on the laptop?

Thanks in advance.Would appreciate any suggestions.

"We tried couple of things but nothing is working."- What have you tried? Please tell us so we don't instruct you to do what you have already done.

Do you know how your friend removed Norton? If you need the uninstaller tool you can find it here: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Once you are sure Norton is removed and you only have 1 AV program installed and running, let us know where the problem stands.

Hi klarisa78,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Which Norton product are you installing on this computer?

To ensure that you are doing a clean installation of the Norton product you are installing, please carefully follow the instructions below. If you are unsure which product you had previously installed, you can choose any of the 2008 + products from the list and then follow the instructions provided.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Log into Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

3. Insert the CD for the Norton product that your friend purchased and begin the installation.

4. When the installation is complete, launch your Norton product and manually run LiveUpdate to ensure you get the latest patches applied.

5. When the updates are complete, perform a "Full System Scan" (Norton AntiVirus or Internet Security) or a "Comprehensive Scan" (Norton 360).

Let me know if you experience any problems or need additional support.

Thank you,
Mike
