Question

Help, please, if you can; got some dye in my phone...

Feb 29, 2016 6:52AM PST

...and I would like some advice or recommendations if anyone has them...

Long story short, a few days ago I was dyeing my hair with a non-toxic, vegetable-based hair dye. I proceeded to clean up the bathroom immediately afterward, and had THOUGHT I had it all nice and clean.

I thought wrong.

A couple days later, I set my phone down on the bathroom counter briefly, and saw ( what looked like ) a little speck of dye on the upper right hand corner of the screen, and I wiped it off, thinking everything was OK.

Until a couple hours later, when I looked down at my phone to find this weird, inky, blacked-out sort of effect had basically overtaken the display of my phone.

I tried the rice trick to no avail.

I managed to not actually collapse in tears, not without a little bit of effort.

I ran out and got a super cheap temporary phone, which is simultaneously a relief and a frustration, since I'm not only spoiled on having apps and camera capabilities, I also had forgotten how lucky I was to be able to compose and send text messages in under three minutes per message ( it's a REALLY CHEAP temporary solution... )!

About my ( hopefully not ) ruined phone:

It's a Samsung S6, Android version 5.1.1 model # sn-g920t.

I've had it for six months.

No other major issues with it otherwise.

At the time of the incident, it was in an Otterbox case, if that matters ( I realize, of course, that a case like that doesn't render it completely "life-proof"; unfortunately, I also have the evidence to prove it now, too. ).

The reason I ask if there is ANY HOPE for this phone is that it DOES STILL power on and off; it's not ( yet ) totally destroyed, it's just that ( apparently ) the dye has affected the screen/display to the point where on certain places on the screen in no longer recognizes the touch of a fingertip/finger swipe.

Anyone think there might be a possibility to take the phone apart, remove and/or replace the screen, maybe clean it somehow (???)?

Sorry about the long post, but this is really the oddest phone situation I've ever been in, and of course it happens to the nicest phone I've ever had! Thanks in advance for any help, advice, or suggestions!

Answer
See if you have any accident plan with that phone.

That would be the next to cheapest exit.
Also, look up icracked.com and ask them how much and if they can repair.

For me, my brother got one of those Blu 99 buck smart phones you now see (but more than 99 bucks) at Best Buy. My son went with a Blu Life One which was on sale for 99 bucks. Usually about 150. Part of the reason they don't get the Galaxy models is the high entry cost.

Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendations!

As I recall, I opted out of the accident plan ( who knows why, as I have got to be the one of the most regularly-phone-messing-up-in-oddball-ways people I know ), but it's worth checking...

I'll be checking out icracked.com as well!

Could be.....

......a damaged display and nothing to do with the hair dye, it is referred to as screen bleed. Have the phone evaluated by a repair center. If the display shows evidence of user damage, your phone warranty would be useless. Best of luck.

Well...

...it's doubtful that it's a damaged display, but I'm obviously no expert, and stranger things have happened.

I'm going to check out repair centers ASAP; I was just near one the one other day that I had been previously unaware of so I didn't have the phone with me at the time, but it's worth finding out for sure.

Thanks for your response!

Well, you should take your phone to the local Samsung service center.

I would imagine the OP already has had the phone evaluated by now. Your advice is good but a little late now.
