Help!!! Please!!!!

Mar 7, 2004 9:50PM PST

Everytime I try to go to certain web-sites, my browser just dissappears completely and I am left staring at my desktop. I have tried adaware, spyware, and shredder, and had no change in the problem. Anyone have any ideas on how to rid the problem?

thanks,
-Brandon

You should craft a better title.

There was a post eeriely similar to your about such happening on the AOL home page. That one is related to AOL ActiveX components and as such is best left to calling AOL since its their code.

In closing, without an example website, we can't see if some code (activex or other) is in play.

I don't use AOL, I use Comcast cable. The problem doesn't happen on every web-site either. Only every once in a while.

Do you mean it happens at random web sites and not at any particular web sites ? And it happens at a web site at one time but not at other times ?

It happens on the same web site addresses over and over, and today I noticed that it took placewhen I was just in a program - not even on the web browser.

What is???

a. "my broswer"

Not everyone uses the same browser. Tell is XP SP1 and other updates are installed.

b. An example web site.

Such is important to see what's different.

c. The machine.

Many are unaware that Microsoft will not install drivers for video, audio and more. Tell a bit about the machine and if the drivers are all uptodate.

There are several 'trojans' out there with a name like 'Prockill' or 'Prockill with an extension or 'Proc' in the title.
I assume you have checked your computer for viruses.
Your antivirus program probably does not pick up these types of 'trojans'.
One of the side-effects of these programs is to end programs like:
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe, C:\Windows\System\Mtask.exe etc?
Do a search of your system to see if you have any programs with Prockill or Proc on your system.
If you go to the McAfee website:
http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp
they can help you eliminate these.
