Help: Phoner & CallWave Issues

Aug 7, 2012 2:58AM PDT
Phoner: I downloaded Phoner to act as an online answering machine and the buttons are in English, but setting it up has the instructions all in German! I can't read German so this is a useless piece of software. Are there any instructions for setting this up that are in English? I haven't found any yet, thanks.

CallWave: I also want to know where the old CallWave internet answering machine is found on their new website. I have searched for the download but they seem to be called a new company name with all new software for virtual meetings. Where is the download link to the CallWave internet answering machine, since their drop down menu to the "internet answering machine" does not go to the internet answering machine (at least that I can recognize). It opens a page that has all new software for virtual meetings, instead.

As far as I know, the phone company

Your phone company has to offer such software or it does not work. If you have ATT, Verizon or other, you ask them what works with their system today.

I have Frontier phone service

Thank you R. Proffitt for you reply.

I spoke to my phone company who is Frontier and they do not offer CAllWave or something similar. Now, I did download CallWave on another home computer I have that I got through an Earthlink offer because I have Earthlink dialup internet, but it only downloads on one computer - so when I use my other computer with a large screen (I just got it working yesterday) I cannot receive phone calls and want another internet answering machine on that computer.

I am still trying to figure out how to use Phoner that I download on CNET with the language problems I described in my earlier email, for anyone reading this. Thank you.

Sorry to hear that.

It's a hard area to describe in 3 paragraphs but Phoner has to work with the phone company to offer such a feature. It used to be pretty common but with the passing of dialup into near obscurity, the phone companies don't do this anymore from what I can tell.

Phoner & CallWave resolved thanks
Aug 7, 2012 2:04PM PDT

I guess I could call my phone company to have them accept Phoner then, but with the directions in German I am not sure it's worth it and I should just uninstall it.

I don't like dial up at all, but have to go with that right now. My CallWave works fine and I don't mind calling the phone company to tell them I want CallWave forwarded - from the Earthlink link I was sent. I don't remember calling the phone company; I think now they have something you sign or something allowing CallWave / Earthlink to communicate to the phone company that I want to use CallWave. My idea now is to call Earthlink customer service and see if they will send me another link to download CallWave on my second computer. I think that will resolve my problem since I don't see the point in using Phoner even though it is free but since I can't understand their German instructions I hope other people won't bother downloading it if you can't read German.

Thanks.

That's nice to read.

The ISP also would be involved with this system. In your case it's Earthlink. They know if there is such a system on your phone company that works or not.
