HELP...NEW TV or MONITOR

May 26, 2007 5:56AM PDT

Hi..I just purchased a HP m7690n desktop. Now i need a MONITOR.The room it's going in doesn't have a TV in it so I'd like to (kill to birds with one stone if Possible). It's going to be used for TV VIEWING and MOVIES as well as surf the net....I've noticed that some TV"S come with a PC..Hookup..The monitor size i've been looking at is 22" and 24" around the $500.00 price range..before i get into SPECIFIC models what are the PROS and CONS to BOTH..

Re: monitor or TV

I'd say both.

My 19" LCD monitor has a resolution of 1280x1024 (can be had at 17" also). That's quite workable from the normal working distance (say 2 feet between your eyes and the screen.
A HD-ready TV (for HD-broadcasts) is 720x1280. If you want to view that resolution on 22" or 24" you'll need a viewing distance that's much bigger than 2 feet, so unworkable for use as a monitor. I'd go for 15" at most (or just a window on a 17" or 19" screen).

Just my opinion.

you hit on the right one

I just got the dell 2407 rev A04 a month ago
this is a wow - HDTV capable.
installed a geniatech x8000a hdtv card (from ebay)
hooked up the cable - installed the software
BAMMM sharper tv than my tube ! ! !
not to mention everything else is amazeing
had to back off on the resolution to 1280 x 768 since one
of my main reasons to get the 24 was to help my eyes (getting old, dont tell anyone) LOL
also backed off on the brightness - the white is intense, but
then maybe its cause there is SO MUCH OF IT hahahaha

I got mine on ebay at 619 includes shipg
you wont be sorry.
dont go to dell - even tho they are $10 cheaper - they are
still getting rid of the A03's and wont do a special pic!

well TV is now old technoiligy, you should buy a new monitor and a TV tuner card and turn your computer into a TV when you want to. I have not had a TV for 7 years i just use a TV tuner card, also there is a lot of TV on the internet now ( way of the future) go to wwiTV.com and watch 2000 stations from around the world WHO NEEDS A TV?

iTV - US?
Jun 2, 2007 12:56AM PDT

Do you know of an equivalent to iTV for the US? I have a TV tuner on my computer and it works great. I also have a radio tuner on my computer. I haven't quite figured how to get the best out of it. My monitor is 19". I'd like to upgrade my monitor, too. It's 4 years old.
