Help needed! HDC-991e turns off when taking pictures

Dec 6, 2011 10:04PM PST

I am hoping someone can help.
I was given a Hitachi HDC-991e for mothers day and it worked well for a while.
It now turns on but when I try to take a picture it clicks once then turns off, sometimes it wont turn on at all despite new batteries !

Its close to christmas and I really dont want to replace it and as it was given to me I dont have the receipt to take it back so if anyone has any ideas on how to overcome this issue myself and my children would be very grateful

Hitachi HDC-991e

I am going to be very frank about this.

It appears that Hitachi has gotten out of the digital camera business.
Digital cameras are not even mentioned on the Hitachi web-page.

Their cameras are being sold at auction sites and surplus sites.
The price is usually about $30 USA.

I doubt that you can get it serviced or even replaced.
I suggest you do not spend any money on it.
The best place for the camera is in the trash bin.

The last hurrah.

Get out some Alcohol. The non-rubbing type without oil and Q-tips to clean the battery contacts.

Good luck but this one may be at the end.
