Question

[Help needed] Black Line on Samsung Plasma TV

Mar 18, 2012 5:18PM PDT

Hey guys in about a month it will be 2 years since I own the
Samsung 50" 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV PN50C550
purchased it from newegg.

Yesterday when connected to my pc I was about to watch a bluray movie and the line appeared (black horizontal line going across the screen) I first thought it was bad DVI to HDMI converter but I was wrong , it appears everywhere on PS3 , Samsung MENU, everywhere I could think of.

Since I am out of warranty what are my options? I cant just ship this huge tv...

this tv has been so good for me for this 1.9 yr/s and I would like to know my best options thank you!

pattuspl,

In the U.S., a unit that size usually has a technician dispatched to your home.

If you'd like to try that route, try calling the Samsung customer service center at 800-SAMSUNG.

Sounds like a repair to me

pattuspl,

I know you're concerned about the price for repair, but if you want to TV fixed, you're most likely going to have lay out some money. Go over to the thread just below, and you can contact us on FB or Twitter. We'll get you in touch with a local repair provider, and he'll provide you with a quote.

Exact same issue!
Nov 21, 2012 9:11AM PST

For me, the black horizontal line started last spring month after 14 months of service only. The TV has less than 200 hours of usage. Got no results witih Samsung's No customer Service. All I will remember from that TV is the price I paid for. No more Samsung for me. Too painful, and frustrating for me. Thanks for sharing!.

Ouch. In the USA
Nov 21, 2012 9:42AM PST

In the USA you get 3 more months warranty (I saw it last week) and since 14 is less than 15 it's a shame to read this post. It would have been covered. Did you have your transaction number from that time?

My bet is you should create a new post with this information for the Samung rep to find it next week. Putting posts in old discussion sometimes get missed.

Hope it pays off.

Horizontal lines
Nov 24, 2012 12:17AM PST

I have the same problem...posted in another area of this forum. Started 4 Months after warranty was up last April. Now I have six lines. Enquiries at the time left me with no extended warranty available. Contacted ECR 1 week ago with my file #3101205947 and they advise that they have extended the warrantly to six months. Does nothing for me now as Im over by 10 months now.

This is a common problem which should be covered by a recall or at least extended by 1 year warranty. I work for Toyota and they fix stuff like this all the time warranty expired or not. Man up Samsung...

Hi BigAlWiz,

I tried looking up that transaction number. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it. Do you mind double checking it?
