You can try that generic reset first noted in the CNET Laptop Troubleshooting Forum. While you are there you discover there are very few parts to a laptop. In a shop you swap out the board or display and it's usually fixed.

I tried the reset but nothing changed. I have another dell with the same HDD, if was to swap it what would happen? Would the bad computer do anything to the good HDD?

Would it be a disaster if it fried that HDD?

Besides we don't need the HDD or Opitical drive to see the dell bios screen. And you don't see that now.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
