Question

Help Needed !

Sep 1, 2016 10:41AM PDT

Hello Everyone !

I have been assigned to setup a wireless network for one of the new offices where I work. This is my first time so I'm a bit nervous. I have a WAN IP terminated on my ISP's media gateway. I have the below equipment

A Linksys E1200 (plan to configure my WAN IP on the internet port)
6 Linksys EA6900 (WiFi to be configured)
24 port switch (plan to terminate all my WAN IP and WiFi devices on this switch)

I tried configuring but failed. Below are the steps I did in sequence.

1. I configured the static WAN IP on E1200 on the "Internet" port and set the DHCP to be automatic. Set the LAN Network range from 192.168.1.1 - 100

2. Configured wireless settings on EA6900 in bridge mode and assigned a fixed IP from the range above (192.168.1.10)

3. Connected both devices on the same switch and tried accessing but failed.

Can someone please tell me where I went wrong ? Would appreciate your help! Thanks

ZW.

Clarification Request
Modem > Router > Switch

The setup you've done is not clear to me. I'm assuming too much here.

I believe the "ISP's media gateway" is a modem provided by your ISP? Is it able to act as a router? If it is, the E1200 should also be set to bridge mode.

If not, after the modem, you need a router, and only then a switch. On the switch you can connect another router that act as a bridge.

Make sure to first configure the router to be used in bridge mode before connecting it to the main router. Also, please read more about this. A lot of settings need to be done correctly to get a router to work in bridge mode.

I'm also still learning and can't help much. Good luck fellow learner.

Hi

My ISP is terminated on a media converter thus I have to configure E1200 as a router. I was able to configure it after spending almost the entire day on this Happy Below are the steps

Configured WAN IP on E1200. Enabled the DHCP. Set the client IP range from 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.10.110 (100 users)

Configured the 6 Access Points in bridge mode and assigned them fixed IPs (192.168.1.2-192.168.1.7, .8 and .9 left for future work)

Voila ! Mission Accomplished Happy

They have design services for companies where the company's IT is not up to the task.

Give them a call, get a quote.

On the second router did you configure it so that your DHCP server is the first router?
