I am curious how you defragged the hard disk if you can load to "normal" or "safe mode" Windows??
If you can't do anything at all, then I would reformat the computer and reload everything. If you've got a Recovery CD or Recovery Partition, then it should be fairly easy. If you don't have either of the above, then you'll need to the Windows XP CD. Put it in the CD-Rom, restart the computer, then use the CD to eliminate the current partition, reformat it, then reinstall Windows. Make sure you have all the drivers for your hardware and backups for everything else.
Hope this helps.
I've got a problem with my computer. The problem is when it gets into Windows XP appears to boot as normal until the welcome screen should appear. Instead, the screen flickers on an off quickly and then displays a blank screen, with a normal windows cursor in the centre. The system will do nothing from this point, no keystoke or combination has any effect. Exactly the same thing happens when I try to boot in Safe Mode from the F8 menu before windows loads, except that "Safe Mode" appears in each corner of the screen.
Windows XP Professional SP 2
Pentium 4 1.6 MHZ
Gigabyte Motherboard GA-81DX

I have tried to reinstall my OS, updating BIOS and Chipset, defragmenting my hard disk. It is still not working. Anyone got a clue on how to solve this problem?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
