Help! My Olevia 47" LCD is getting a COPY PROTECTION msg

Oct 5, 2008 3:24AM PDT

Hey guys...I am pretty dunb with all this so any help would be appreciated. I have a Olevia 47" LCD tv that I love. Had it for almost a year and have had no issues. I have COMCAST with a SCIENTIFIC ALTANTA Explorer 8000HD dvr box. I connect them by a dvi/hdmi cable. No issues...until yesterday. I just get a message saying...

COPY PROTECTION

The DVI/HDMI output is being blocked.

Never had an issue before and now nothing will show. Well I called useless COMCAST and the even more useless woman said that there are new updated network signals and that the tv must not be equipped to handle it. The only solution to her is to use the component cables to connect. I then called OLEVIA and they said that the tv is perfectly equipped to handle it. Any advise or solutions? This happen to anyone else? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Then you have to use component, which means no hi-def.

HDMI, component and HD

Using component connections doesn't negate being able to receive HD, either from a cable box or a DVD player. Component connections were the high-end method of getting HD way before HDMI. It's just that component is analog digital and HDMI retains the digital signal. On both of my HD cable boxes, I use component because the boxes don't have HDMI connections, and I get stunning HD reception.

You really need to contact Comcast again, as it definitely is something related to an upgrade on their end. They certainly have no business blaming your HDTV(!) FWIW, I did have one Comcast Moto set-top box flake out after one of their 'upgrades'. I find this very similar, only in this instance specifically related to the HDCP handshake issue. Firmware changes are not nice sometimes. The initially comcast reps are generally unable to get this detailed w/ their equipment IME- it will need to be someone in their upper levels of tech support assisting you.
