or tell the phone to "forget" that network and start again on the discovery process.

You may also want to check that, for some reason, the wireless is actually turned on.

NO WIFI
Aug 5, 2009 1:09AM PDT

After upgrading my wifes ipod touch (1st gen) with the most recent one her wifi indicator has turned grey. When you go into settings it says "no wifi". I have done everything imagineable to fix the problem, restore, reboot, reset...etc. I have searched every forum known to cyberspace and cannot find a fix. That said, I have found numerous posts, threads from other individuals that have the SAME PROBLEM! This is completely being ignored by Apple. Any help would be appreciated. Finally, I also updated my ipod touch the same day and do not have this problem. With hers it literally occurred over night.

what did they say when you called them to report your problem?

NO WIFI
Aug 5, 2009 12:00PM PDT

They said to do the five "R's" which I had already done, but was walked through them again and than decided it's a hardware problem...which is comical if you read other forums. This is happening because of the new update. I'm going to the Apple store tomorrow because it's still under warranty.

UPDATE:
After taking the ipod to my nearest(2 hours away)Apple store I can say Apple has a problem they are not confessing to. I was summarily brushed off by the Apple Concierge (asked all the questions you would expect, "Did you reset it? Did you reset your network settings? Did you restore it....you poor, poor man.) I was able to be seen by the APPLE GENIUS! The Genius asked what the problem was, took down the info, looked at the greyed out wifi and said "This will require an exchange." I was amazed. I asked if it was hardware or software and he replied "It's a known software issue." I said "Not one anyone is mentioning or sending out notifications about." His reply was, "No, it's not." I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EARS! So people of ipod, iphone...if your wifi is dead, go to the store, relate my story and get your exchange!!!It's NOT repairable. I will gladly provide more details to anyone that desires them. GOOD LUCK!

Did you have warranty on your phone when you took it in? I'm having the same problem but I don't have warranty since I have had it for over a year.
Thank You

If you mean updating to 3.0 and messing this one up, no thanks. Check around, read some other forums. Just put "no wifi" or "greyed out wifi" in a search box and see what comes up.It's all related to happening after updating.

getting wifi to work on iphone 3g os 3.0.1
Aug 13, 2009 9:19AM PDT

When I got my new iphone 3gs, i was so excited until I found out that i am having issue with connecting through wifi at home. Sometimes , it connected but slow; other times, it just try to load forever until timeout.

after reading what is posted on the internet and trying all that are suggested. Like resetting the phone nework, resetting all setting and i even went as far as to restore back to factory. Eventually, I found out this one actual work.

You can try switched the wireless-b off on your router and run on wireless-g setting. for some reason the os 3.0.1, the os got some sort of conflict between b/g setting. Until the patch comes out from Apple, this is all we can do.

good luck

It is odd...

I have a D-Link router and run two wireless computers with /n adapters and an iPhone.

The router was set to mixed n,g,b, and the iPhone would always connect, however, at times it would show an "Excellent" connection but seemed slow.

After reading your post, I did some experimenting.
I first set the router to /n only, and the iPhone would not connect at all.
I reset the router to /n, /g, and the iPhone connected and now runs much faster on wifi.

I think you got it right!
Thanks...
