Question

HELP my Gateway Laptop isn't turning on!!

Apr 14, 2017 9:37AM PDT

I was playing a game and it just went black, the light was on and it started blinking. So I took out the battery for 60 seconds and put it back in, it didn't work. than i clicked the on button and it blinked about 5-10 times then turned back off. I tried to see if it had any battery life yet but it won't charge!

Gaming takes toll

If you're a heavy gamer, that can take a toll on a laptop. Especially, if sold as a gaming based laptop. All in all your laptop probably is overtaxed by heat and surccomed. I suggest you check the vents to see if they still exhaust well. -OR- teardown and check for dust on fans, etc.. The sad result maybe its too late and heat has broken the video section or taken down the weak link in the laptop usually video. I have no details on your model# or length of use(wear&tear) thus age, but your result is common. repair cost depends on any available parts or recycled one via some website.

Answer
There are about 3 parts to get charging to work.

Charger (easy to guess that one), motherboard (where the battery management happens) and the battery. If you find a non-charging laptop you hope it's the battery or charger as the motherboard cost can mean the end.

Always try the generic reset noted in this forum's sticky and pop in a new CMOS battery as a cheap thing to try.
