HELP! My computer ate my...computer

by jak1006 / February 9, 2009 3:39 AM PST

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m (Windows XP, Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG installed) that I purchased back in '04 that has always run fine until a week ago. My system surprisingly went to the dreaded blue screen, and I learned that after rebooting the error was due to my wireless connection. My computer worked fine for another day, and the blue screen happened again. Upon rebooting, my system went immediately into blue screen. I tried to start up in Safe Mode, but upon entering Safe Mode...BLUE SCREEN?! I rebooted again...BLUE SCREEN!!! I repeated everything again, with the same results. I put my XP OS disk in to see if a system repair would help, but I received the same results.

SO-I reinstalled Windows XP, and there's no blue screen issue, BUT NOW my computer won't recognize any sort of internet connection through the RJ-45 network connector port. And upon attempting to reinstall my device drivers/diagnostics and utilities, InstallShield Wizard gives me a message that "Setup is unable to recognize this computer as a Dell computer and will now exit." AND when I inserted the Dell TrueMobile CD I get "Program Not Found: Windows cannot find autoRcd.exe." I reinserted my DVD Drive but received the same messages after my reattempt, as well as with different CDs.

I've also noticed that, while I do have the 2200BG installed in my computer, my installation CD says 2300 on it, but it never gave me problems in the past. Do I need a new OS? Wireless card? Router? I'm at a standstill now, and my wife shoots me dirty glances when I'm on her computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
