Question

Help me with DVD burning!

Dec 31, 2014 7:16AM PST

Hey guys I really need help with something. I have an ASUS computer and I've checked that my drive can burn either CD's and DVD's. I have some series I wanna put into DVD so I bought these blank ones. I've tried with some programs, including media player which is the first one i tried it with, and also tried putting in some formats of video to check if the problem wasn't the MP4 format but nothing works.

It starts burning and then says there was an error and they couldn't burn it. Nothing works. Strange thing is, one of the first I tried to burn then worked in another computer. It had all the files there.

So I put it in my computer once again. Nothing. It says it's empty. I've been trying to get some help, but nothing works. What could be the problem?

Clarification Request
Tell more about these MP4 and what you expected.

A file, a MP4 file can be put down onto the DVD just fine. But if you want that to play on a Video DVD player, I'd have to tell a lot more.

I use CDBURNERXP (even on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.)

Bob I tried CDBurnerXP as well and it did not work. I've tried several, and figured it wasn't about the MP4 format, the problem I mean.

I put the DVD-R and try to put things into them and it just doesn't work, it says theres a problem. It goes almost till the end of the burning tho, just so it can say error.

Then theres also the problem that one of them worked on another computer and it says its empty on mine.

I see we still don't know much about the desired result. Try as noted a CD/DVD lens cleaner and another brand media.

If you do go out to replace the ODD, consider what I did. I went for an USB DVDRW since I needed that for my laptops.

I'm definitely going to try a different brand and a lens cleaner too, if nothing of that works I'm going to see about replacing it, and thank you for sharing what you did. I'm no expert in this or computer , so as you can imagine I'm lost, so thank you!

The computer's about 5 years old. But to what you said, it seemed to burn a CD when i tried in one, just not in my new DVD-R's, and it reads CD's and DVD's. The problem really seems to be with burning these DVD's

but a couple of years ago I found that the reader and burner are 2 separate parts of an optical drive .
I replaced mine for the same reasons you're having . I could be other things but others can talk about that.

Oh so even if it burns a CD, it might be for those reasons it doesn't burn a DVD?

sharing my experience with you, at 3 years I replaced mine. Better let the Pro's here give you the real diagnosis as I am prone to sticking my foot in my mouth lol.

Answer
what computer
Dec 31, 2014 7:51AM PST

what is the full model number of the computer? try lowering the burning speed. Instead of 18x or whatever you are using, use a much much slower speed.

It's an ASUS P50IJ, and I already am burning at the lower speed, like 4x, they don't even put up the option of 8x or something.

I tried a DVD+R and it was better for burning, the thing is once i put it again on my computer it said it was empty. Then I put it in another it worked, and had the files in there.

Long story short, If i put it in another computer and then put it in mine, it works. But only once, because if I take it out, and put it in again, it says its empty and will not work again unless I put it once in the other computer.
