Question

Help me remove Malware SMART HDD

Aug 14, 2012 4:42AM PDT

I am trying to remove Malware SMART HDD from Windows 7 laptop. I have tried to get to safe mode WITH network via F8 option at startup. Even though I choose safe mode with network it only opens my computer in safe mode. I need network access.

Thank you.

Answer
Removing SMART HDD

Bob..

If you're unable to start in Safe Mode with Networking, then follow Step #3 (and onward) in the below SMART HDD Removal Guide. After using another computer to download and run the suggested tools, you shouldn't have a problem from thereon in. Follow each and every step "to the letter".

"Remove Smart HDD (Uninstall Guide)"

Best of luck..

Carol - Thanks for trying to help. Still have same problem
Aug 14, 2012 6:31AM PDT

Carol - Thanks for trying to help. Still have same problem as my infected computer does not have the two software downloads in desktop as the command indicates. I have the two downloads rkill and ie I can not find a way to load them onto computer in desktop or hard drive. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind since I am not able to get into safe mode WITH network I can not download and following your suggestion it assumes the downloads are in my desktop. Again, I have them on a thumb drive but am not able to load anywhere on to infected computer.

You downloaded the files..

You downloaded the files from a clean computer and have them on a thumb drive? But you don't see them on your desktop? If so, try renaming the files. (See the below links)

Rkill "kills" the offending process. See the instructions at the RKill Download Center. Also see, "RKill - What it does and What it Doesn't - A brief introduction to the program ".

Also take a look at Grif's instructions. They may be easier to follow. Or there may be a point I overlooked.

I probably shouldn't have responded to your post, when I had my hands full. For that I am extremely sorry. Sad But I will take another look at it shortly.

Thanks for trying.

Carol - Thanks for trying to help. I am not sure I am being clear enough on the problem. Yes, I have the downloaded hopeful software fixes on a thumbnail from a clean second computer. As I said prior, I can not load them onto my infected computer. In Start on infected computer it will not recognize anything incuding the thumbnail or any other files or software. So, no they are not on the desktop of the infected computer. I wish I knew how to put them on the infected computer so I could see if that fixes the malware SMART HDD.

Carol - I was able to find a way to load software fixes from thumbnail to infected computer. I have made progress removing the SMART HDD. I am loading malwarebytes as final correction.

Thanks for your efforts.

Was Grif's guide helpful? Was the instruction you needed in there?

I died of exhaustion last night and was unable to reply. Devil

Strangely, it still didn't prevent me from thinking about you. True (The dying part was a fib)

I'm glad to hear you made some progress. If you run into any further problems, please don't hesitate to post back and let us know.

Best of luck..
