Ok I have a hp pavilion touch smart a friend borrowed it and when I got it back it was full of virus and malware. Tried to clean it off it crashed..

Formatted it to factory settings and it froze and kept giving me the blue screen attempting to repair.. Did all scans on it everything checked out except a software failure.. Tried to install windows 8 from usb.. It has no disk drive.. It Freezes on unpacking at 11%..

I'm lost.. Any help would be appreciated..

Without a disk drive?

HP's restore systems are best for this one. Installing ANY version of Windows is now an advanced effort. Be sure to find your restore media (could be that USB stick? ) and follow HP's restore.

If not, I suggest you forget Windows and research how to install Linux Mint.

A this point I think you are stuck, personally I'd take it to a competent tech shop...send your FRIEND..the bill.

It's not required as when I created the restore media it uses the new method of an USB stick. Let's be honest here. If you didn't create the restore and the onboard restore fails we have to order the restore media or get Linux or even some USB DVDRW drive and discs.

It's like your car with the flat tire in a desert without a spare tire. You may have to walk or call for parts. Some get all upset but where you are is not unknown. You decide which exits are best for you.

-> I don't think the shop counter is the right choice since I can order restore media for under 50. I can order some USB DVDRW for under 40. My buddies can install Linux for me for free (yes they are zealots.)

I agree totally....BUT I'd still stick the friend with whatever bill there might be..and of course it may be a good lesson to some NOT to loan such items out, friend or not.
