Help Me Improve! (Video clip included)

I made that with my Canon XH A1, but as you can see...well...it's EXTREMELY mediocre (if that) in terms of picture quality. I am brand new to prosumer cams, so all I did was set it to 24F, drop-frame, Aperture-Priority mode, super fine quality, and auto white balance. Then I just did a little bit of color-correction in Final Cut. I'm a bit lost right now, as what I've captured can hardly be differentiated from a cheapo camcorder.

Whether it's lighting, setting parameters, running basic newbie tests, post-production compression, whatever; I am completely open to suggestions/critique. Any tutorials or other references would be greatly appreciated as well. Please don't hold back, I am frustrated and want to make use of the full potential this camcorder has, I just need to find a good starting place.

It would be SO odd

living in an M.C. Escher environment.

Expecting to see differentiation from a YouTube posting is unrealistic. The sponsored, pro, network uploads get different parameters to live by than the un-promoted freebie uploads the rest of us minions live by.

If you want to see video differentiation, you probably want to use a service like Vimeo.com

The ONLY suggestion I could make on this project is to go manual on the iris/exposure and brighten it a hair.

Don't be frustrated... This is GREAT!
