Question

HELP ME BUY A LAPTOP THAT I DONT REGRET

Jul 18, 2018 10:56PM PDT

Forgive me for copy pasting my post from reddit. really need help though.

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, my max budget is about 600-800 USD.

I mainly need it for personal use and college stuff. Priorities include

-a GOOD display (i really need a nice display im sick of watching stuff on this and not being able to see anything. i also edit a lot of photos and videos etc)

-generally just a fast ish computer. i dont want to go into spec details because thats what i did with the lenovo and IN MY EXPERIENCE this 16gb RAM machine is still often slow.

-1TB HDD

-a 2 in 1 convertible preferably (the nice flippy kind idk)

-I'd prefer good graphics because i want to do some light gaming every now and then, but nothing too hardcore.

Total budget and country of purchase:

600-800 USD. Pakistan but might be able to get from the US too.

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply

2 in 1 but battery life too :/

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Needs to be bearable to carry around OFTEN

Which OS do you require?

Windows 10

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A

15" ish

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run

Microsoft Office, Light gaming, not-very-intensive-or-hardcore photo and video editing.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

not very demanding games for the most part.

the Dragon Age series, the Elder Scrolls series, csgo, a bunch of other small games. nothing too fancy just want to play them comfortably every now and then.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

good keyboard as I will be writing a lot, and backlit keyboard is preferred. GOOD DISPLAY IS TOP PRIORITY because i use my laptop to watch a lot of movies and stuff and the previously mentioned editing. no dull ****** display pls

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I currently have a Lenovo Y700 laptop. Specs-wise, its pretty amazing (1TB HDD, 16GB RAM, GeForce 960M, core i7 etc etc) but i've been super disappointed mainly because I hate the dull *** display on this thing, i hate how HEAVY it is, and it can be pretty slow sometimes and overheats quick too.

just want a nice laptop thats in my budget. really dont want to be disappointed again.

i had my eye on the acer aspire R15 and the dell inspiron 15 5000 (but for the dell i heard bad reviews about the display and i really dont want to compromise on display). the dell XPS sounds like a dream but its **** expensive.

i want to avoid lenovo entirely because of the disappointment, and its also not recommended by other people i know??

most people suggest Acer, Dell, HP etc. just anything reliable.

PLEASE GIVE SUGGESTIONS

May be good enough. A few years ago they used the bottom of the barrel. They weren't unusable but were dull when set beside other similar priced models.

Go to the store and see today's newer models. As to Lenovo the only troubles I had were in two areas. One is a non-issue here but could stress out an everyday user. (1) We had a lot of HDD failures. Lenovo wasn't alone in this issue and they don't make the HDD. 50 buck part and the machine is fine. (2) Some models used a PWM method for some colors and that resulted in some colors flickering a bit. Not all models do this and it's the rare image so what to write here?
