Help me! a network cable is unplugged?!

Sep 6, 2009 1:35PM PDT

I just got internet cable installed in my comp a few days ago, it did seem to be okay but I keep getting a message saying "a network cable is unplugged" but it's not unplugged.. so I waited, and I went and changed the cable eventually, it seemed to behave for a bit, two hours later I get the message again, and sometimes in succession, especially at night. So then I went to go get my driver updated... so I thought okay this should work now, so it did say network cable is unplugged after i updated the driver (which I expected..) but now it just did it again! Sad

I did a network test to see if there's any problems, and it said that my connection failed with the DCHP server.. everything else worked though. I tried to ping the address that was listed in the server, but it got no response. I even went to another site and it gave no response when I tried to ping that. I really don't want to go call videotron(my cable company) and get them to come over because it's really random first of all, secondly I'm starting school next week so I don't have the time to hang around 5 hours a day.. It seems like I also get errors at those times to saying things like:

The system detected that network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{D5118E14-CE98-4859-8376-0C8DCF4BC8C3} was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter.

My network card is Rhine II Fast Ethernet adapter, I don't know what else to do, please help me!

Just sharing.

An old machine we had with a "Rhine II Fast Ethernet adapter" died so I used another card.

Also I couldn't tell if the internet is working or not to this machine. If it works, research how to disable that message.

Bad Cable?

Sounds like either your cable is bad or your Ethernet card is bad. If you jiggle the cable does it make any difference
