Several months ago I moved from the States to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I had my Westinghouse 32" LCD SK-32H240S sent to Argentina so that I could use it here. Unfortunately, it is designed by Westinghouse (I found this out after-the-fact, obviously) to be used only in Canada and the US, as it operates over the NTSC broadcast system. The signal that is broadcast in Argentina, unfortunately, is called NPAL, and not compatible. I have digital cable here, which allows me to watch all premium digital channels in color, but all channels broadcast locally (not digitally) are in black and white. I was told by Westinghouse that I will need to purchase an HD cable box (receiver), as this is the only way to convert the signal from NTSC to NPAL (this will change the format
from NPAL to a compatable 720p, 1080i or 1080p signal). I already have a small cable box used for the digital cable that the local cable company I use provided. I was told by Westinghouse that you can use a standard HD receiver for channels that
are not "pay channels" and you can normally get these at your
local high end electronics store.
Can anyone corroborate this? Where might I go about purchasing this (on-line, if not locally here in Argentina)? Is this physically a cable box that I need, or just an HD cable cord? Any guidance or insight whatsoever would be GREATLY appreciated, as I would like to be able to watch color TV again on this set!
